RESTAURANTS • FOUND Favourites Q225
Our favourite new restaurants we visited during the spring of ‘25
→ MAREIDA (Fitzrovia, above), slick Chilean cooking in a city that doesn’t see much of it, serving food that feels both fresh and immediately accessible
→ NOISY OYSTER (Fitzrovia, above), another Restaurant of the Summer, this new seafood bistro serves diminutive cocktails alongside creative, colourful plates
→ LUNA OMAKASE (City), 12-seat sushi counter serving outstanding 12-course set menu (£230 per), inside the maze-like Los Mochis
→ ALFIE’S (Belgravia), seasonal elevated British cooking with French flourishes, set above popular Belgravia pub The Alfred Tennyson
→ SINO (Notting Hill), high-end Ukrainian cooking in an earthy room with casual vibes
BARS • FOUND Favourites Q225
→ GODET (Islington, above), team behind Dalston’s Binch sets up shop in a classic pub on Essex Road, offering a French-first wine list, British craft beers and a serious vinyl program
→ THE PALM TREE (Mile End), spellbinding live jazz in time-warp ‘60s atmosphere of one of the city’s great ‘old man pubs’
→ FREUD (Covent Garden), strong drinks at a decent price since 1986
GOODS & SERVICES • Q225 Notables
→ NAPPA DORI (Covent Garden, above), the menswear selection is luxe but not overstated, blending traditional Indian design with contemporary concepts, and the leather goods are exceptional
→ PANZER’S (St. John’s Wood), a recent renovation has only made this Jewish deli — which dates to 1944 — more desirable. Find everything from smoked salmon to goods from 80 countries around the world
→ HEYWOOD HILL (Mayfair), a mighty force of a bookshop, delighting visitors with a vast selection of fiction and non-fiction. It’s the sort of place that welcomes browsing and curiosity.
GETAWAYS • FOUND Favourites Q225
Near Whitby, the luxury wellness resort SALTMOORE boasts gorgeous rooms and baths, and delicious food by Tommy Banks of The Black Swan fame.
The crown jewel of chef Stuart Ralston’s mini-Edinburgh empire is LYLA, where he’s serving seafood-focused dishes and a stunning sapphire martini.
We checked out version 2.0 of OSIP, a charming restaurant in Bruton that first launched in 2019 with the emphasis very much on produce. Rooms just launched in June.
In a typical Yorkshire village, the minimalist restaurant MYSE in Hovingham serves terroir-based cuisine reminiscent of Noma, each bite better than the last.
BEAVERBROOK in Leatherhead is a sprawling English country estate in Surrey Hills, with a terrific spa that includes new remote shepherd’s hut in the middle of a field.
